Put your furniture in good hands, or, ahem... let us rephrase... Put the 1197 in your hands to take good care of upholstery that is in need of cleaning. Horsehair lays solution down onto fabric and cleans without penetrating the delicate fibers and weave of upholstery. Horsehair is soft, it bends, so it does not place too much power or aggression onto fabric. The block and handle of this brush are made of polypropylene—a plastic known for its chemical resistance. Horsehair tufts staple-set with galvanized steel staples make this brush appropriate for wet and dry applications. Dry brushing furniture helps to loosen dust and dirt that should then be picked up by vacuum. Horsehair gently agitates to lift soil from woven fabrics without fraying or pilling them. 1197 bears versatility—its range of use from cotton and woven fabrics to fabrics such as leather, suede and vinyl.
Staple-setting the tufts packs the hairs together for a dense fill. Galvanized steel staples hold up to the damp work of upholstery cleaning, and a short, 1⅛-inch trim allows for an applied, firm, focused clean. The handle on 1197 keeps your hands dry, and provides ease and leverage to placing solution onto fabric and working in the solution.
1197 is the general-purpose member of Braun's horsehair furniture brush family. 2632 is a handheld upholstery brush—in a curved, compact shape and size. Similar to 1197, it is an all-around choice for sofas, chairs and cushions. The 318 is our heavy-duty choice, for large pieces of furniture. And 319 is for small areas or furniture, for in-between areas and crevices.
Allow this brush to spread and lift, rather than bearing down—horsehair loses a lot of its stiffness when wet, so it is not much of a scrubber. For stubborn stains, try a stiffer spotting brush. With any and all of our brushes, be sure to take good care of the fibers by resting the brush on the block. Rinse the 1197 upholstery brush in lukewarm water with mild soap after use, and allow to dry fully before storing. The brush contains an open loop handle for adequate drying and storing.
